How Do You Take Care Of Very Long Nails?
Sometimes a big style statement is quite literal, and it is hard to deny that the lush salon look of extra-long nails is one that will catch people’s attention very quickly.
Whether they are flat, coffin-shaped or extremely stiletto sharp, long nails are the perfect accent for a bold style, and getting them fitted or prepped at a nail salon is the perfect excuse to get yourself pampered.
However, one question that always gets asked when it comes to long nails is how people manage to live with them every day, with the different weights and pressure on your nail bed as well as the length rather unhelpfully getting in the way of the everyday.
The simple answer is that people simply take it one day at a time and find ways to adjust their routine to ensure they don’t hurt their nails or their nails don’t hurt them, as well as not doing anything that would put way too much pressure on the nail such as opening a can.
Typing is one task that does need some adjustment with long nails, particularly on a phone given that the lack of a raised typing surface means that inevitably some part of your thumb or finger is going to clink on the screen.
The answer is simply to unlearn using the fingertip or pointing your nails towards the keys, instead using the flat pad of the fingertip to type. As with relearning any other task, it will take a bit of time to get used to the new method.
Taking contact lenses out, similarly, involves using the flat pad of the fingertip to extract it from the eye, much like how the flat of the finger is used to place it.
Wearing soft fabrics with your long nails such as silk, lace or cashmere will need a bit more time, but if you are worried about snagging your nails, wear more robust fabrics at first until you get used to them.
