What Is The Secret Behind The Blueberry Milk Trend?

One benefit of providing lavish, beautiful Wembley nails is that a beauty bar often learns very quickly about the latest popular trends in nail art and beauty, which are often spread via social media.

There have been a lot of elaborate nail trends that have emerged as a result, from ornate nail paintings to glitter patterns and optical illusions.

However, the most controversial social media nail trend is surprising in one sense as the look itself is pretty innocuous, but in another sense reveals the fatigue many fashionistas are having with TikTok-centric beauty trends.

The “Blueberry Milk Nails” trend started on 1st June 2023 with a collaboration post with Versace by singer Dua Lipa, wearing an all-blue outfit alongside it.

This trend quickly spread across other social media platforms, as one might expect, but there was a distinct difference in how people responded to Blueberry Milk Nails compared to other trends and it seemed to pierce the illusion somewhat.

The term was not coined by Dua Lipa herself but by TikTok influencers spreading the trend, but whilst there are plenty of people calling it the look of the summer, there are also plenty of people who are noting that Blueberry Milk Nails are ultimately a baby blue manicure.

Other influencers mocked the trend by claiming other pretty but conventional nail trends were new styles with outlandish descriptions, and others went further to take social media’s beauty communities to task.

Social media is prone to repackaging old trends under new names, with “tomato girl summer” simply meaning wearing dresses with a mix of neutral shades and bright red highlights, but Blueberry Milk Nails was for some a step too far.

One particular influencer cited the Marxist philosopher Theodor Adorno and explored how people’s desires for self-expression are often mediated and manipulated to sell particular products or looks

The problem that has annoyed people so is that this it was such an obvious marketing trick that it not only struggles to sell people on baby blue nails regardless of the name but shatters the illusion of choice that has powered so many social media trends.

Naturally, others have disagreed and noted that the trend is not that serious, but it does highlight a potential turn away from rapid trends powered by social media before disappearing again.
