How To Get Started With Nail Design

The summer months, when people are out celebrating, are a time when people start exploring more elaborate designs for their nails in Wembley.

From the vivid colours and designs of pride flags to ornate works of art, floral and galactic designs, there is a type of nail art for every finger and every occasion, and whilst it can look intimidating, here are some ways to easily get started.

Prep Is As Important As Polish

In a nail bar, what you often notice is that a significant part of your session is spent on preparing your nails for painting, using polish remover, cleaning away dirt and oils that are on and under your nails that could ruin the finish, and buffing them to a perfect, ridgeless finish.

Your Base Coat Is Key

Much like how long-lasting art is painted onto a fine canvas, the base coat on your nails helps to protect the surface and stop the polish from chipping.

Take Your Time

A lot of the time spent on nail art is waiting for each coat to dry. Exactly how long that is will depend on the product itself but expect to wait between two and five minutes per coat.

During this time, particularly with your top coat, you can apply extra effects such as nail powder that can create a beautiful shimmering finish.

Use Painter’s Tape

An easy way to create sharp designs, particularly if you are taking advantage of negative space, is to use the same types of painter’s tape that you would use to protect a skirting board during a redecoration job.

Much like a stencil, once you peel that tape off it creates a perfect line.

Stabilise Your Nails

A simple trick to make even lines easier is to use your thumb on the hand you are painting and the third finger on the hand you are painting with to stabilise the nail and create a more straightforward canvas on which to paint.
