How To Ensure Your Manicure Lasts For As Long As Possible

Getting a fresh set of nails is the best feeling in the world but often those nails will be chipped, cracked or not looking their best a couple of weeks later. You can, however, take several steps to ensure your manicure lasts much longer and stays looking perfectly pretty for weeks.

First, if you are removing your previous manicure yourself, make sure to remove the old polish, gel or acrylic properly. Soak off, do not rip or pull at your nail extensions as this can damage the natural nail, clean your nails and moisturise to ensure they are healthy and strong.

Your nail technician should prep your nails well before doing your manicure, however taking these steps before heading to the salon can make it much quicker and can also help to ensure your nails are damage-free and ready for a new set.

Consider the length of your nails. While super long nails may be what you want, they aren’t always practical, especially if you have a job that is very hands-on. Choose a length and shape that is suitable for everyday wear as it will most likely last a lot longer.

Square, rounded or almond-shaped nails tend to last a lot longer than stiletto or ballerina as they aren’t as thin and pointed at the end, making them slightly stronger and more durable.

Once your nails are done, it is important that you are careful and gentle with them. Try to avoid banging or trapping your nails or using them for any tasks such as opening can tabs, scratching hard surfaces etc.. as these can all cause damage and can even result in the nail coming off.

Using gloves or other hand coverings when cleaning and cooking can help to prevent stains and damage to the nail as well as prevent any chemicals or oils from lifting the edges of your manicure.

Remember to schedule regular infills or maintenance appointments to stay on top of nail care and ensure your manicure stays beautiful for as long as possible.
