How To Care For Your Skin After Having A Hair-Removal Wax
Waxing is an effective hair removal method which leaves the skin smooth, soft and hairless. Results can last for weeks and if done regularly can slow the rate at which the hair grows back and in some cases make it sparser and less thick.
This has been a popular method of hair removal for a very long time and is used all over the world. Different people practise different forms of waxing, however, in most salons, you will find one of two types.
One type is soft wax which is heated and applied to the skin and then removed with a soft cloth strip. The other is hard wax which is heated and applied to the skin and can be removed once hardened without using a strip.
Waxing can sometimes be painful, similar to plucking or tweezing hairs, as the hair is pulled out from the root. Pain levels may vary depending on the area of the body being waxed.
Waxing should never be unbearable; you can build up a tolerance to the pain with more treatments. The wax used can be hot, however, it should never burn you or cause pain and discomfort when it is applied.
Due to the nature of this method of hair removal, your skin may be sore and red afterwards. You can take several steps to care for your skin and help soothe it.
Avoid bathing or showering immediately after waxing. Your pores will be open, allowing water to enter the skin and hot water may worsen the sensitivity.
Exfoliate after a few days. You should do this before waxing and then two to three days later, but not immediately after as it can make it even more sore and sensitive.
Using a cooling or soothing moisturiser is a good idea as this can help to calm the skin and keep it from becoming dry or irritated. Remember to give your skin a few days to heal and for the inflammation to go down as this can vary from person to person.
